Story Of “Schatzi”, Club That Burned Down

Written by on 22/12/2020

Hagenbrunn Disco “Schatzi” was one of Austria’s most visited, but then it all ended.

The disco “Sweetheart” burned to its foundations. The cause of the fire is unknown.

The interesting fact was that the new fire extinguishers were installed at a club just one day before the fire.

The place where several generations spent their youth, burned down to its foundations. The owner, Gschwandtner reportedly said “Yesterday afternoon people were inside, to check a few things we did yesterday and got some fire extinguishers. The authority has checked everything just last week.” The fire investigators had indeed been at a first site inspection at the fire, the exact cause is not known, however.

No economic difficulties.
The discotheque has a capacity of 2,000 people. Nobody was injured because the bar was not open during the week. Gschwandtner expected a full house again on the following weekend.

Everything burned
Alert level four for the fire brigade. At around one o’clock in the morning, a police patrol discovered that the “Schatzi” club building was on fire. When the fire brigade came to the scene, the flames were already breaking through the roof. The house was in full fire, described operations manager Karl Böhm from the Hagenbrunn fire department.

“We immediately triggered alert level four, 20 fire engines and more than 100 firefighters were on duty. Since the discotheque is almost entirely lined with wood, everything was on fire.”

The cost to rebuild the club made 10 years ago was two million euros.
