Canterbury - UK

ATLAS 808 AKA Jak Wellard first visited Berlin's famous Berghain last year, and on return to his home town, Jak realised it's time for Techno DJ's in Canterbury to no longer fear playing the "dark and deeper side" of  Techno anymore.

Jak is also a successful promoter and runs Safari both a record label and events platform for Techo DJs to play whatever they like, no matter how dark or weird.

Jak has been DJing and producing his own tracks for 5 years now and has played alongside artists such as Jay Lumen, Hot Since 82, Kink, B-Traits, Nic Fancuilli, Kolsche and Joris Voorn.

Who inspired you to start DJing?

"I achieved a scholarship for playing several instruments, most of all drumming. I was first given a set of 1210’s from an old friend & from there my love for DJ’ing grew. I'm a self taught DJ and was soon begging promoters and local  bars for a gig "

Artists that are doing it for you?

"My idol is Skream, like a lot of the DJ’s in my circle. Performs under his own rules and style. Billy Turner is an artist that’s doing it right for me at the moment, not only is he signed to Skream’s label but the guy is churning out some serious tunes with the man himself."

Most memorable experience

"Berghain, Berlin. Queuing for an hour watching hundreds of people get turned away from the door, and the relief of getting in, probably the best 12 hours of clubbing I’ve had. Memorable DJ'ing experience has to be warming up for Jay Lumen at a small underground 400 capacity club."
